About the Role
We are acting on behalf of ABL Health Ltd—an experienced, CQC-registered community health organisation dedicated to delivering evidence-based, innovative healthcare—to recruit an enthusiastic and skilled Senior Counselling Practitioner for Be U Swindon.
In this varied and rewarding role, you will provide clinical leadership and day-to-day support to a multidisciplinary team, delivering person-centred interventions (face-to-face and virtual, 1:1 and group work) for children and young people (CYP) experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. You will play a crucial role in triaging referrals, conducting comprehensive assessments, managing risk (including self-harm and suicidal ideation), and providing clinical supervision or undertaking a funded clinical supervision qualification.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Leadership & Assessment
Provide clinical oversight and day-to-day guidance to the wider team, supporting referrals, triage, and comprehensive clinical assessments for children and young people.
Undertake robust risk assessments, formulate safety plans, and offer targeted safeguarding support for CYP presenting with self-harm or suicidal ideation.
Deliver one-to-one and group therapeutic interventions, maintain accurate and confidential case notes, and support clinical record audits.
2. Supervision & Stakeholder Collaboration
Provide regular clinical supervision to counsellors and mental health support workers, or participate in a funded clinical supervision course to qualify as a supervisor.
Work collaboratively with children, young people, families, and external professionals, communicating with sensitivity and compassion.
Facilitate peer support initiatives, deliver training and workshops, and contribute to continuous service innovation and co-production.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration: Professional registration with a recognised national body (such as HCPC, NMC, BACP, BABCP, BASW, or TRA) and current UK professional registration.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience working with children and young people across early intervention or mental health settings, with proven caseload management skills.
Competencies: Strong knowledge of child and family development, safety management for self-harm/suicidal ideation, safeguarding procedures, and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Vetting Requirements: Must successfully pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. (Please note: Sponsorship is not available for this role).
Desirable Criteria
Existing qualification or experience in providing clinical supervision to a counselling team.
Experience in delivering groups, workshops, or training to CYP, parents, carers, or professionals, alongside familiarity with clinical outcome targets and quality improvement.
