Job Title: Maintenance Operative
Location: The Bridles Care Home, Dykes Way, Wincanton, BA9 9FQ
Pay Rate: £14.10 - £17.30 per hour (dependent on experience)
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week; flexibility required)
As a Maintenance Operative, you will be the backbone of the home's facilities management. Your primary responsibility is ensuring the building, grounds, and equipment remain fully functional, safe, and welcoming—helping residents live their best lives in a comfortable, high-standard environment.
Compliance & Safety: Conduct and log health, safety, and compliance checks (including fire safety, Legionella, and environmental health) using Bupa’s digital software systems.
General Maintenance: Complete repairs, painting, decorating, and maintenance tasks to a high standard, offering value for money and preserving first-class visual standards.
Contractor Management: Report defects, obtain quotes, and oversee approved contractors while adhering strictly to Bupa Standard Operating Procedures.
Refurbishment Support: Help manage care home elements of any refurbishment or capital expenditure programs with minimal disruption to residents.
Fire & Emergency Safety: Assist with new colleague inductions covering fire points, emergency exits, and evacuation procedures.
Regional Support: Provide occasional maintenance support to nearby Bupa care homes within a reasonable distance (no more than 1 hour away) when required.
Qualifications: A building, electrical, or plumbing qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC, etc.) OR a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in property maintenance and general repairs.
Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of building services (heating, plumbing, electrical distribution, ventilation) and fabric maintenance.
Practical Skills: Proven painting, decorating, and record-keeping abilities for planned maintenance systems.
Licenses & Literacy: A full driving license and computer literacy for logging digital compliance tasks.
Customer Care: Strong customer service skills with a flexible, compassionate approach tailored to an elderly care setting.
