As a Workshop Mechanic within our team in Haywards Heath, you will inspect, repair, and maintain commercial vehicles in accordance with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) "Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness." Your hands-on technical skills will play a critical part in keeping our essential fleet safe, reliable, and operational.
Vehicle Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine maintenance inspections, diagnose faults, and carry out necessary repairs on commercial vehicles.
Compliance & Planning: Collaborate with the Workshop Supervisor to ensure all safety inspections and statutory obligations are planned at least six months in advance.
Testing & Safety: Ensure all required brake tests are completed and conduct thorough test drives post-repair to verify full vehicle roadworthiness.
Documentation & Standards: Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised workshop environment while accurately completing all inspection and repair paperwork (manually or electronically).
Operational Flexibility: Support the team by working outside normal hours when operationally required.
We are looking for an experienced, qualified mechanic with a strong background in large fleet maintenance and a commitment to safety standards.
Qualifications: Full industry-recognised qualifications (City and Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair).
Experience: Proven experience maintaining large commercial fleets.
Licence: A valid Cat C Driving Licence.
Specialist Knowledge: Experience working on specialist hydraulic systems.
Vetting Readiness: Prepared to complete an occupational health questionnaire and right-to-work checks.
