Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust and Aston University to recruit an ambitious Band 8a Specialist Pharmacist Teacher Practitioner.
This unique post allows you to combine clinical pharmacy leadership with academia without putting either path on hold. You will split your week equally between Good Hope Hospital (leading clinical pharmacy services and line-managing a pharmacy team) and Aston University (delivering lectures, designing learning modules, and tutoring MPharm students). Both locations are easily accessible from central Birmingham by public transport. Teaching experience is not essential—full support will be provided toward obtaining Fellowship of Advance HE (FHEA).
Clinical Leadership (Good Hope Hospital): Lead clinical pharmacy service delivery on hospital wards—including prescription screening, medicines reconciliation, and therapeutic drug monitoring. Line-manage a team of pharmacists and supervise trainee pharmacists and undergraduate placements.
Academic Leadership (Aston University): Shape future pharmacists by delivering lectures and workshops, developing learning materials, marking assessments, overseeing hospital placements, and acting as a personal tutor to MPharm students.
Research & Professional Development: Pursue clinical or pedagogic research in your areas of interest while receiving built-in protected learning time and support toward obtaining a Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) qualification if needed.
Vocational Master’s degree in Pharmacy (MPharm or equivalent).
Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent advanced practice experience.
Willingness to work towards a Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) qualification.
(Desirable: Registered NMP with GPhC; working towards Level I Faculty Membership with the RPS).
Relevant clinical knowledge within complex hospital pharmacy environments and multidisciplinary teams.
Prior experience in teaching or presenting to healthcare professionals or patients.
Professional, reliable, well-motivated approach with the ability to work calmly under pressure and travel across Trust sites as required.
Salary: £57,528 to £64,750 per annum (Agenda for Change Pay Scheme).
Development & Wellbeing: Support for FHEA and NMP qualifications, structured leadership experience, protected learning time, NHS discounts, and comprehensive staff wellbeing benefits.
Inclusion: UHB is committed to an inclusive, values-driven culture and provides reasonable adjustments for staff with disabilities or long-term health conditions.
Checks & Sponsorship: Subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, GPhC registration, and overseas criminal record checks where applicable. Skilled Worker sponsorship applications are welcome.
