Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse/Stroke Alert Nurse - Neuroscience NHS AfC: Band 6

Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting an experienced Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse / Stroke Alert Nurse (Band 6) to join their Neuroscience department in Norwich, UK. Based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital within Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, this permanent post offers an exciting opportunity for a specialist nurse to deliver care across Hyper Acute Stroke (HASU), Acute Stroke (ASU), and Neurology services.

In this role (with full-time, part-time, and flexible working options available), you will contribute to 24/7 specialist care delivery across the entire patient pathway. You will perform initial acute stroke screenings, participate in thrombolysis decisions, manage acute and hyper-acute interventions, take charge of HASU and ASU shifts, coordinate patient flow, and undertake unit management duties such as e-rostering, incident investigations, and staff appraisals (PDRs).

Role Description

As a Band 6 Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse / Stroke Alert Nurse in Neuroscience, you will provide specialist 24/7 acute stroke and neurology care, coordinate patient pathways, take charge of ward shifts, and support department management and service expansions like thrombectomy.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform initial clinical screening of acute stroke presentations, assist in thrombolysis administration decisions, and manage hyper-acute care through to post-acute rehabilitation.

• Take charge of HASU and ASU wards, coordinate patient flow across stroke and neurology pathways, and lead multidisciplinary team (MDT) communication.

• Fulfill clinical management responsibilities including shift coordination, e-rostering, incident investigations, staff PDRs, and mentoring junior team members.

Requirements

• Active registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register as a Registered Nurse (or HCPC registration as a Radiographer).

• Significant post-registration clinical experience with substantial knowledge of neuroscience, acute stroke, or neurology care pathways.

• Demonstrated leadership and management capability, including experience coordinating clinical workloads and leading multidisciplinary teams.
