About the Role
Join the BAE Systems Maritime 'in-service' technical support cell and help shape modification design packages for legacy warships! As a staffing partner, Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is proud to recruit for this vital Mechanical Design Engineer position on behalf of BAE Systems.
Operating within the Design Services team at Portsmouth Naval Base, you will undertake a defined range of detail design activities, conduct ship trials, perform technical investigations, and represent the Mechanical/Piping team at project design reviews.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Documentation: Produce technical drawing guidance packages, detail parts lists, and inventories using AutoCAD / Inventor (2D/3D design).
Ship Trials & Surveys: Conduct on-board ship trials and surveys while communicating effectively with other departments, customers, and suppliers.
Technical Investigations: Carry out technical investigations into operational problems or developments, preparing solutions individually or as part of a team.
Project Reviews: Represent the Mechanical / Piping team at various project design reviews and support best practice development.
What We Are Looking For
Design Software Experience: Demonstrated AutoCAD / Inventor (or equivalent 2D/3D Autodesk/Foran) design experience producing detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
Technical Drawing Proficiency: Strong understanding of engineering drawings, projection layouts, scaling, tolerancing, and P&IDs/piping isometrics.
Marine Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with marine piping, mechanical ship systems, pipe sizing, flow/pressure loss calculations, and vessel standards.
Manufacturing Familiarity: Working knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes and marine ship equipment symbols.
