Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse - Gynaecology NHS AfC: Band 6

Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting an experienced Band 6 Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse to join their Gynaecology team in Norwich, UK. Based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH)—a major 1,200-bedded teaching hospital—this permanent role offers full-time, part-time, and flexible working options for a skilled nursing leader.

In this clinical and supervisory position, you will oversee safe, compassionate, and specialist care across a dynamic service that includes a 16-bedded inpatient ward with an emergency pathway, an Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU), and an outpatient department (incorporating hands-on clinical work in colposcopy and hysteroscopy). You will provide senior clinical leadership, coordinate daily shift operations, manage patient flow, and train and mentor junior nursing staff.

Role Description

As a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse in Gynaecology, you will provide senior clinical leadership, oversee patient care across inpatient, EPAU, and outpatient settings, supervise shift operations, and support team development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior clinical leadership and shift coordination across the 16-bedded gynaecology ward, EPAU, and outpatient clinics (including colposcopy and hysteroscopy).

• Deliver and oversee specialist, evidence-based nursing care for patients with acute and chronic gynaecological conditions, early pregnancy complications, and post-operative needs.

• Mentor and supervise junior staff, lead clinical audits and quality initiatives, and ensure compassionate communication with patients during sensitive situations such as pregnancy loss.

Requirements

• Active registration as a Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register.

• Post-registration qualification relevant to gynaecology or women's health, with evidence of ongoing professional development.

• Significant experience working as a Registered Nurse at Band 5 level, including relevant experience within gynaecology or associated surgical/acute specialties.
