Based primarily at the main hospital site in Colney Lane within Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, this permanent post offers an excellent opportunity for an accredited specialist to deliver high-quality non-invasive cardiac diagnostic services.
In this full-time role (37.5 hours per week, with flexible working options available), you will independently perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) in accordance with British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) standards. You will contribute to a service delivering approximately 18,000 TTEs annually—alongside specialized procedures such as TOE, stress echo, and congenital heart disease imaging—while providing clinical and managerial leadership, mentoring junior staff, and helping shape patient-focused care pathways.
Role Description
As a Band 7 Chief Cardiac Physiologist, you will independently scan and report echocardiograms, provide clinical leadership within non-invasive cardiology, mentor department staff, and support advanced cardiac imaging services.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms independently as a skilled practitioner, adhering strictly to BSE Level 2 guidelines.
Support wider non-invasive cardiology services including transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE), stress echocardiography, and congenital heart disease clinics.
Provide clinical and managerial leadership within the department, guiding junior physiologists, supporting staff development, and coordinating efficient patient flow.
Requirements
Active BSE Adult Accreditation (Level 2) or recognized equivalent.
BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent qualification with significant experience at a Senior Cardiology Physiologist level.
Comprehensive technical knowledge and hands-on experience across all core areas of non-invasive technical cardiology.
