About the Role
We are acting on behalf of Optegra UK Ltd—proudly recognised by the Sunday Times as one of the Best Big Places to Work—to recruit an experienced Healthcare Technician or Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) to join the dedicated clinical team at their prestigious private hospital in York.
In this vital role, you will work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive, high-quality care to ophthalmic patients across clinical and administrative disciplines. You will support outpatient consultations, assist with operating lists, perform advanced diagnostic testing, and provide compassionate pre- and post-operative care in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Care & Diagnostic Testing
Hold accountability for delivering exceptional patient care and support throughout the patient's journey, from admission to discharge.
Perform a wide range of diagnostic tests in clinic, including Biometry, OCT, A-Scan, Visual Fields, Pentacam, Visual Acuity (VA), Intraocular Pressure (IOP), and Topography.
Provide pre- and post-operative care within your level of competence and offer basic health promotion advice regarding ophthalmic surgery.
2. Clinic Operations & Team Collaboration
Work closely with clinical and patient services staff to ensure the smooth, efficient running of theatre operating lists and outpatient clinics.
Assist and support patients actively on surgery days, ensuring clear communication, professional enquiry handling, and service excellence at all times.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications: NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) and competency in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Experience: Previous working experience within a healthcare environment or the ophthalmic sector (ward or theatre background highly desirable).
Competencies: Highly organized with strong forward-planning capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure and flex to patient needs.
