We are currently recruiting an experienced and driven Aircraft Mechanical Senior Supervisor to join the Serco Defence team at RAF Syerston, supporting the critical development of the RAF’s next generation of aircrew, engineers, and air traffic controllers through the Air Cadet organisation.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the meticulous maintenance, safety, and operational airworthiness of Viking and other contract-related gliders, ensuring that vital training assets remain operational and ready for the skies.
As an Aircraft Mechanical Senior Supervisor, you will be entrusted with comprehensive technical, regulatory, and managerial duties, including:
Regulatory Compliance & Certification: Fulfill all responsibilities and duties of Certifying Staff strictly in accordance with Serco GMS policies and military regulatory frameworks.
Maintenance Execution: Conduct thorough preventive and corrective maintenance on Viking and associated aircraft fleets at RAF Syerston, 2 Flying Training School (FTS) locations, Volunteer Gliding Squadrons (VGSs), and nationwide detachments.
Team Leadership & Operations: Lead, manage, supervise, and control assigned maintenance teams, optimizing output to meet dynamic business needs while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Aircraft Handling & Logistics: Lead and participate in essential aircraft activities, including ground movement, transportation preparation, and site-wide logistics.
Specialized Duties: Undertake key secondary responsibilities as required, such as Aircraft Manager (Depth-level Maintenance), Team Leader (Mobile), Building Custodian, and Issue Centre Custodian.
Engineering Background: Extensive experience in a relevant engineering background, backed by a minimum of MOD Phase 2 technical training or equivalent civilian training.
Certifying Experience: Proven technical background with demonstrated capability or potential to hold official Certifying Staff responsibilities.
Trade Expertise: Relevant trade group experience gained within the Armed Forces or an equivalent civilian industry environment.
Technical Acumen: Strong fault-diagnosis capabilities, an advanced understanding of complex aircraft systems, and technical competence. Previous exposure to a Part 145 organization and familiarity with military or civilian maintenance documentation is highly advantageous.
Core Attributes: Full UK driving licence, strong written and verbal communication skills, competent IT proficiency, and medical fitness to operate within a demanding aircraft engineering environment involving manual handling, rigging, and de-rigging. Note that travel across UK detachments with potential overnight stays is an essential component of this role.
