As a Carpenter within our healthcare team at Great Western Hospital, you will play a hands-on role in maintaining the building fabric that keeps essential hospital operations running safely and smoothly. Your work ensures that patients, visitors, and medical staff experience safe, well-maintained spaces every day.
Reactive & Planned Maintenance: Carry out reactive repairs, fault-finding, servicing, and Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) across a wide range of hospital plant, equipment, and building services.
Specialist Carpentry: Safely operate carpentry tools and electrical saws to execute building repairs and support general property upkeep.
Fire Safety: Undertake essential fire door maintenance, inspections, and fire-stopping tasks.
Compliance & Safety: Work in line with strict workplace regulations, adhere to safety guidelines, use required PPE, and proactively contribute to health and safety reviews.
General Support: Assist with painting and decorating tasks as needed, communicate outstanding defects to management, and undertake Authorised Person duties (such as working at heights or in confined spaces) once trained.
We are looking for a qualified, experienced tradesperson who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and understands the unique demands of working within a live hospital environment.
Qualifications: Completion of a recognised Carpentry Apprenticeship or structured training programme, alongside a City & Guilds and/or BTEC certification.
Experience: Proven professional experience working in a similar maintenance or facilities environment.
Knowledge: Sound understanding of building services and general property maintenance.
Core Skills: Strong communication, customer service skills, and a dedication to safety and reliability.
Vetting Readiness: Prepared to pass an Enhanced DBS check and complete an occupational health questionnaire.
