Thornbury Hospital is looking for a committed Healthcare Assistant to join their dynamic team in the Theatre department on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week). The successful candidate will cover a flexible shift pattern to support fast-paced surgical environments.
Patient Care: Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs with dignity and respect.
Nutritional Support: Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional intake documentation where appropriate.
Emotional Support: Provide comfort and reassurance to patients and relatives, creating a safe and welcoming environment.
Clinical Observations: Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (post-training).
Clinical Support: Prepare and maintain clinical areas, equipment, trolleys, and beds, assisting with basic procedures like wound care setup and pressure area prevention.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and administrative teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
Experience: Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary).
Attributes: Compassionate, caring attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Competencies: Ability to follow instructions, escalate concerns appropriately, and possess basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
Physical Requirements: Physically able to undertake moving and handling tasks.
Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) is desirable.
Knowledge: Sound understanding of safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality procedures.
