We are acting on behalf of Mountain Healthcare Ltd—one of the UK's leading providers of forensic custody healthcare in partnership with police forces and NHS England—to recruit dedicated Registered Nurses (RGN) and Paramedics for a unique BANK role at the Carlisle Custody Suite.
Guided by core values of Being Kind and Doing the Right Thing, you will provide essential, trauma-informed clinical care to vulnerable individuals detained in police custody. No prior forensic or custody experience is necessary, as full accredited training and a structured development pathway are provided. 1. Clinical Assessments & Custody Care
Conduct clinical and capacity assessments to determine fitness for detention, interview, charge, and release.
Manage acute medical emergencies, treat injuries, and provide expert healthcare advice within a fast-paced environment.
Support detainees presenting with mental health needs, substance misuse, alcohol dependency, and complex vulnerabilities.
2. Forensic Duties & Multidisciplinary Liaison
Collect, preserve, and document forensic and evidential samples (including injury documentation) in strict adherence to legal and professional standards.
Produce accurate clinical and evidential records, prepare professional statements, and attend court as an impartial healthcare witness when required.
Liaise closely with police officers, custody teams, NHS services, and external agencies to ensure safe onward care.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration: Registered General Nurse with current, unrestricted NMC registration, or Paramedic with current, unrestricted HCPC registration.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in an acute or fast-paced setting (e.g., A&E, front-line ambulance, urgent care, prison, or custody).
Competencies: Strong autonomous decision-making, excellent communication skills, and a calm, compassionate, professional approach when dealing with vulnerable or distressed individuals.
Requirements: Full UK driving licence (fewer than 6 penalty points), full right to work in the UK with a minimum of 3 years UK residency, and willingness to complete enhanced DBS clearance, police vetting, and externally accredited forensic training.
Financial & Incentives: £19.60 per hour with enhanced rates for overtime, £500 refer-a-friend bonus, and annual professional registration fees paid (£120 for NMC / £98.12 for HCPC).
