Position: Embalmer (Part-Time / Permanent)

Location: Carlisle, CA1 1BA (with travel required to Kendal, Whitehaven, and Barrow-in-Furness)

Pay Rate: £19.78 per hour (£38,571 pro-rata) plus benefits

Hours: 22 hours per week, working a variety of shifts Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

In this vital role, you will provide exceptional, empathic care for the deceased and offer support to grieving families and colleagues alike. Bringing your technical expertise and emotional maturity, you will ensure that every final tribute is delivered to the highest possible standard while acting as a trusted ambassador for Co-op in the community.

What You'll Be Doing

• Embalming & Care: Prepare the deceased and carry out practical physical assessments daily with professionalism, dignity, and strict adherence to health and safety standards.

• Empathic Client Service: Deliver a personal and sensitive service to clients from all backgrounds and religious beliefs.

• Team & Community Support: Help colleagues understand the benefits of embalming, maintain exceptional standards of detail and accuracy, and build strong relationships within the local community.

Working Pattern & Important Requirements

• Hours: Part-time, 22 hours per week, scheduled across Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

• Travel: The role is based in Carlisle (CA1 1BA) with regular regional travel required to branches in Kendal, Whitehaven, and Barrow-in-Furness. Applicants must be able to reliably commute and travel across these locations.

• Important Note on Duties: Positions within Funeralcare involve direct physical contact with the deceased as part of normal duties. Please carefully consider your comfort levels with these responsibilities before applying.

• Qualification: A BIE (British Institute of Embalmers) qualification (or equivalent).
