About the Role

Supportive Bridge Staffing Agency is proud to partner with Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield—part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading independent healthcare provider—to recruit a seasoned Lead Theatre Practitioner for their dynamic Theatre department.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours a week on a flexible shift pattern. In this key senior role, you will act as the most senior member on duty, coordinate the theatre team, manage rotas (off-duty) and staff appraisals, and deliver exceptional patient-centred care with specialist expertise in major orthopaedic surgeries.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Leadership: Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, serving as a functional and specialist lead within the team.

• Patient Safety: Ensure strict compliance with all safety protocols, including WHO surgical safety processes and hospital regulations.

• Clinical Excellence: Maintain high clinical credibility through best practice demonstration, peer support, and leadership during complex or high-risk situations.

• Team Supervision: Provide day-to-day supervision and mentorship for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a professional, compassionate, and accountable culture.

• Staff Development: Oversee team competency assessments, support professional growth, and actively coach junior staff, students, and newly qualified professionals.

• Operational Duties: Manage team rosters (off-duty), conduct staff appraisals, and participate in the on-call rota to support continuous department operations.

Candidate Requirements

• Registration: Current NMC or HCPC registered practitioner.

• Experience: Significant background working within a hospital theatre environment (e.g., scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics), with extensive hands-on expertise in scrubbing for major orthopaedic procedures (hips and knees).

• Leadership Qualities: Demonstrated clinical leadership experience with the ability to act as a strong role model.

• Core Qualifications: Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification (for scrub leads), ENB 998 and/or mentorship course, an approved/recognised anaesthetic course, and current ILS certification.

• Competencies: Strong understanding of patient safety, clinical governance, infection control, and safeguarding protocols, paired with excellent communication and organisational skills.
