Community Psychiatric Nurse Band 6

Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting a dedicated Community Psychiatric Nurse (Band 6) to join their East Kent Home Treatment & Rapid Response Teams in Canterbury, UK. Based at St Martin's Hospital within Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust, this permanent post offers a dynamic dual role delivering crisis nursing, hospital gatekeeping, and shift leadership across East Kent.

In this full-time position working 37.5 hours per week on a shift pattern including long days and nights, you will deliver recovery-focused nursing care and evidence-based psychosocial interventions in service users' homes as a safe alternative to hospital admission. You will screen new crisis referrals, perform 24/7 urgent mental health assessments, gatekeep general hospital admissions, act as shift coordinator, and mentor nursing students as a Practice Educator.

Role Description

As a Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurse, you will conduct urgent crisis assessments, deliver home-based psychosocial interventions, lead shifts, perform hospital gatekeeping, and mentor student nurses across the East Kent Home Treatment and Rapid Response services.

Key Responsibilities

• Screen and assess service users experiencing acute mental health crises, delivering short-term nursing and psychosocial interventions in home settings.

• Act as shift coordinator, prioritizing clinical workloads, delegating tasks across the multidisciplinary team, and conducting gatekeeping assessments in general hospital settings.

• Maintain care plans and risk assessments in line with CPA and Trust guidelines while serving as a Practice Educator to supervise and assess nursing students.

Requirements

• Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).

• Substantial clinical experience within mental health services, with demonstrated ability in risk assessment, casework prioritization, and MDT task allocation.

• Valid full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business travel across Canterbury and the East Kent region.
