About the Role
We are acting on behalf of Mountain Healthcare Ltd—a premier partner of NHS England and the police, and a leading provider of clinical forensic healthcare—to recruit registered nurses and paramedics as Forensic Custody Healthcare Professionals on a bank basis.
Stepping beyond traditional clinical environments, this role offers true autonomy, variety, and professional impact. Working within police custody suites alongside criminal justice partners, you will assess, treat, and support vulnerable detainees with complex physical health, mental health, and substance misuse needs. No prior forensic or custody experience is required; a comprehensive, accredited training and structured development programme is provided.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Assessments & Emergency Care
Conduct thorough clinical and capacity assessments to determine fitness for detention, interviewing, charging, and release.
Manage acute medical episodes, treat injuries, and provide vital healthcare advice in a fast-paced custody setting.
Support vulnerable detainees experiencing mental health crises, substance misuse, and complex safeguarding needs.
2. Forensic Duties & Documentation
Collect, preserve, and document forensic samples in strict compliance with legal, professional, and evidential standards.
Produce accurate clinical and legal records, including detailed injury documentation.
Attend hospital blood procedures under the Road Traffic Act and prepare professional statements or court attendance as an impartial healthcare witness when required.
3. Multi-Agency Collaboration
Liaise closely with police officers, custody teams, NHS services, and external partner agencies to facilitate safe onward care and positive health outcomes.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Registration: Registered General Nurse with current, active NMC registration, or Paramedic with current, active HCPC registration.
Experience: At least three years of post-qualification experience working within an acute or urgent care setting (e.g., front-line ambulance service, A&E, prison custody, or urgent care).
Licence & Vetting: Full UK driving licence with fewer than six penalty points, full right to work in the UK, a minimum of three years' UK residency prior to application, and the ability to successfully complete enhanced DBS clearance and police vetting.
Commitment: A willingness to complete externally accredited forensic training within the first year of employment, alongside a minimum commitment of one shift per month.
