As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join our MEICA team based in Salford, working within the water and wastewater sector. As part of Kier Design—a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor with a 750+ strong design consultancy recognized as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor—you will support capital and operational projects, delivering innovative mechanical design solutions that make a real difference to our clients and communities.
Produce detailed mechanical designs for pumping stations, treatment works, and network assets for both potable water and wastewater applications.
Prepare and agree mechanical design requirements from the client's remit, reviewing, questioning, and challenging details where necessary.
Provide comprehensive support for mechanical design, including feasibility studies, outline designs, and the production and evaluation of buildability-focused concepts.
Ensure all designs fully comply with UK water industry standards (WIMES), British Standards, Water Regulations, CDM 2015, and specific client requirements.
Collaborate closely with civil, electrical, and process engineers to ensure fully integrated and efficient asset design.
Chartered Engineer status with membership of an appropriate Professional Body (such as IET or IMechE).
Fully competent with extensive hands-on experience within the water, wastewater, or process-related industries, including hydraulic design and pumping systems.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making capabilities, and a robust understanding of SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) requirements.
Strong analytical skills to interpret data, patterns, and trends to guide effective engineering decisions.
Ability to pass BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) requirements and complete a Basic DBS check.
