About the Role
We are acting on behalf of Optegra UK Ltd—recognized by the Sunday Times as one of the Best Big Places to Work—to recruit an experienced Scrub Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join their dedicated team at the prestigious private North London Eye Hospital in Colindale.
In this exciting role, you will participate in all aspects of the ophthalmic surgical pathway, delivering exceptional patient care and providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a vital member of the operating theatre team. Your duties will span the surgical suite, minor operations, and peri-operative and post-operative care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Surgical Care & Theatre Support
Carry out a full range of professional healthcare duties, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care and condition, maintaining patient privacy and dignity at all times.
Anticipate the precise needs of the surgical team by providing appropriate surgical instrumentation and equipment.
Support minor operations and deliver comprehensive peri-operative and post-operative care within the refractive and surgical suite.
2. Equipment Management & Compliance
Take responsibility for the correct disposal of surgical equipment and ensure thorough decontamination, sterilization, and traceability documentation for all reusable instruments.
Maintain strict adherence to CQC standards, hospital policies, and professional codes of conduct.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration: Registered General Nurse (RGN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with current, unrestricted NMC or HCPC professional registration.
Specialist Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent ophthalmology surgical theatre experience, accompanied by a formal qualification in Ophthalmology or Peri-operative care.
Competencies: Good computer and IT skills (working knowledge of Microsoft Office), strong awareness of CQC standards, and excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
