Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting an experienced Lead Midwife (Band 8a) to join the Wales Maternity and Neonatal Network team in Cardiff, UK. Based at River House within Public Health Wales NHS Trust, this 9-month secondment position offers a rewarding leadership opportunity for a senior midwife to drive national maternity service developments across NHS Wales.
In this full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, you will work in partnership with Network Clinical Leads and the Network Manager to lead and execute strategic maternity work programmes. You will provide expert midwifery leadership, analyze performance data, act as a national advisory contact for Health Boards and Welsh Government, lead all-Wales clinical guideline development, and collaborate with neonatal teams to support workforce training and continuous professional development.
Role Description
As a Band 8a Lead Midwife, you will provide strategic midwifery leadership, oversee all-Wales maternity work streams, advise key healthcare stakeholders, and support workforce development across the Wales Maternity and Neonatal Network.
Key Responsibilities
Provide professional midwifery leadership and expert advice to the Maternity and Neonatal Network Board, Health Boards, Welsh Government, and external stakeholders.
Lead national maternity projects, analyze clinical performance data, and establish all-Wales clinical guidelines, policies, and care pathways focused on quality and safety.
Collaborate with education providers and the Neonatal Lead Nurse to design shared training, educational frameworks, and continuous learning strategies across Wales.
Requirements
Current active registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Substantial clinical leadership experience at a senior midwife level with proven ability to influence stakeholders across multi-organizational networks.
Current substantive employment within NHS Wales with prior line manager approval for a 9-month secondment.
Benefits
Calculated hourly rate of £29.94 to £33.70 per hour (based on £58,379 - £65,723 per annum across a standard 37.5-hour work week).
