About the Role
We are acting on behalf of DoctorPA Secure LTD—an established provider of primary care services in secure environments since 2014—to recruit a dedicated General Practitioner for HMP Bristol. Operating under their core C.A.R.E. ethos (Compassionate, Assurance, Respectful, and Equitable), DrPA Secure delivers trauma-informed, high-quality primary care to reduce health inequalities and ensure continuity of care for vulnerable populations.
In this rewarding locum role, you will play a vital part in improving health outcomes for individuals with complex health and social care needs within a secure prison setting, supported by an experienced onsite multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Primary Care & Clinical Delivery
Provide full general practitioner services, including clinical consultations, comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and hospital referrals.
Manage acute presentations, chronic diseases, and mental health conditions within a secure environment.
Contribute to the management of substance misuse, support clinical detox pathways, and participate in safeguarding processes.
2. Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Governance
Work collaboratively with nursing staff, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and external healthcare providers.
Maintain accurate clinical records using the prison's electronic health record system.
Take part in clinical audits, risk assessments, and clinical governance activities to support continuous quality improvement.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration: Fully qualified General Practitioner with current General Medical Council (GMC) registration and a license to practice in the UK.
Experience: Proven experience in primary care, backed by sound clinical decision-making, excellent patient management skills, and a strong understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.
Competencies: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to deliver equitable, trauma-informed healthcare in secure or challenging environments.
Vetting: Ability to successfully complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Desirable Criteria
Previous experience working in prison healthcare, secure units, or with vulnerable/marginalized populations.
Additional qualifications in substance misuse (such as RCGP Part 1 & 2), mental health, or sexual health.
