About the Role
We are acting on behalf of DoctorPA Secure LTD to recruit a dedicated Occupational Therapist (Part-Time) to join a developing service at Oakhill Secure Training Centre.
In this vital role, you will provide specialist OT interventions within the SECURE STAIRS framework—a trauma-informed, psychological partnership model operating across the secure estate. Working with young people aged 12 to 18 with complex needs and offending histories, you will deliver weekly individual and group therapy sessions, conduct comprehensive risk and treatment formulations, and support safe transitions and holistic recovery alongside a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Assessment & Caseload Management
Manage a specialist caseload of young people with complex health, social care, and neurodevelopmental needs, using evidence-based and service-user-centred principles.
Conduct specialist developmental assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and comprehensive formulations of risk and treatment needs.
Respond effectively to changing patient needs, maintaining accurate clinical records, detailed report writing, and clinical documentation.
2. Multidisciplinary Intervention & Leadership
Collaborate with the MDT (including nurses, mental health practitioners, and support staff) in developing and delivering multi-modal group and 1:1 therapeutic interventions.
Provide clinical supervision, support, and leadership within the multidisciplinary team.
Offer specialist assessments and support for young people transitioning into or out of the secure training facility.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration: Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist.
Experience & Skills: Proven clinical experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting. Experience conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/specialist developmental assessments.
Knowledge: Strong grasp of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, and appropriate assessment tools for conditions like autism and ADHD, alongside a solid understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.
Competencies: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to work effectively within an MDT.
Vetting: Ability to successfully complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Desirable Criteria
ADOS-2 or ADI-R trained, with additional post-graduate qualifications in autism and/or ADHD.
Prior experience working within a hospital, community, or prison/secure environment.
