About the Role

We are acting on behalf of Mountain Healthcare Ltd—one of the UK's leading providers of forensic healthcare and a premier partner of NHS England and the police—to recruit registered nurses and paramedics as Forensic Custody Healthcare Professionals.

Stepping beyond traditional healthcare settings, this role offers true autonomy, variety, and professional challenge within police custody and the criminal justice system. Working closely with police, NHS, and partner agencies, you will assess, treat, and support vulnerable detainees with complex physical health, mental health, and substance misuse needs, ensuring their safety and welfare while influencing critical criminal justice decisions. No prior forensic or custody experience is required, as a comprehensive, accredited training and structured development programme is provided.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Forensic Assessments

• Conduct thorough clinical and capacity assessments, evaluating fitness for detention, interviewing, charging, and release.

• Manage acute healthcare needs, respond rapidly to medical emergencies, and support mental health, substance misuse, and safeguarding requirements.

• Undertake specialist forensic duties, including injury assessments, forensic and evidential sample collection, and attending hospital blood procedures under the Road Traffic Act.

2. Documentation & Multi-Agency Collaboration

• Maintain accurate, clear, and legally compliant clinical and evidential records.

• Provide professional witness statements and attend court proceedings when required.

• Work collaboratively and confidentially with police custody teams, the NHS, and multidisciplinary partner agencies to safeguard vulnerable individuals.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

• Registration: Registered General Nurse with current, active NMC registration, or Paramedic with current, active HCPC registration.

• Experience: At least three years of post-qualification experience working within an acute or urgent care setting (e.g., front-line ambulance service, A&E, prison custody, or urgent care).

• Licence & Vetting: Full UK driving licence with fewer than six penalty points, full right to work in the UK, a minimum of three years' UK residency prior to application, and the ability to successfully pass enhanced DBS clearance and police vetting.

• Competencies: Strong assessment, communication, and decision-making skills, with the confidence to practice autonomously and a willingness to complete externally accredited forensic training within the first year.
