Salary: £25,000 to £26,000 per annum (Pro-rata for part-time hours)

We are acting on behalf of ABL Health Ltd—a CQC-registered, dynamic, and values-driven community health organisation dedicated to reducing health inequalities—to recruit a passionate Stop Smoking Practitioner. Full training will be provided to ensure you are fully equipped to deliver effective, evidence-based smoking cessation and tobacco dependence interventions.
In this rewarding, community-focused role, you will deliver stop smoking support across multiple venues throughout Sefton, including community centres, GP surgeries, workplaces, and local hospital settings. Working under the guidance of the Head of Service, you will motivate individuals to overcome addiction, lead peer-support relapse-prevention groups, and build strong referral pathways to help improve public health outcomes.
1. Service Delivery & Stop Smoking Interventions
Deliver evidence-based stop smoking and tobacco dependence interventions across a diverse range of community and healthcare settings in accordance with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme.
Provide support through various delivery methods, including one-to-one appointments, drop-in sessions, group work, telephone, and online support.
Motivate and empower clients to understand nicotine addiction, set realistic and sustainable goals, and lead peer-support group sessions for successful quitters to prevent relapse.
2. Partnership Working & Documentation
Collaborate with partner organizations, local services, and hospital teams to promote the service, increase referrals, and embed smoking cessation into routine patient care.
Review and update hospital discharge referral pathways to ensure patients are linked to the service promptly.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date client and service records in strict adherence to ABL Health documentation policies.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Background: Higher-level education, professional qualification in health, social care, or public health, or proven practical experience working within smoking cessation, addiction, or behavior change.
Requirements: Must hold a valid UK driving licence and have independent access to a vehicle to travel across the borough; flexibility to work one evening per week.
Competencies: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage your own caseload without day-to-day supervision; positive, proactive outlook with strong organizational abilities.
Vetting: Must successfully pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Desirable Criteria
NCSCT Practitioner status or a relevant degree qualification.
Experience in developing and delivering training to target audiences, or knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
