We are currently recruiting a hands-on and dedicated Maintenance Operative to join the Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract (AASC) team in Carlisle.
In this vital role, you will deliver essential property maintenance across a designated portfolio, ensuring that all managed environments are safe, fully functional, and compliant with Home Office contract standards. Your work directly improves day-to-day living conditions and supports a positive experience for the people who live there.
What You’ll Do
As a Maintenance Operative, your responsibilities will include:
Building Maintenance: Provide general building maintenance services across a defined property portfolio, ensuring properties are free from building defects.
Systems & Records: Report and close faults using the AORA IT system to keep property records accurate and up to date.
Subcontractor Liaison: Liaise with approved subcontractors, coordinating access, quality standards, and audit checks.
Testing & Safety: Undertake annual Portable Appliance Tests (PAT) for all properties in your portfolio and adhere strictly to health and safety principles.
General Upkeep: Carry out garden maintenance, furniture repairs, materials management using approved suppliers, and responsible waste removal.
Collaboration: Complete KPI-driven tasks on time, prioritize urgent work, and collaborate closely with Housing Officers.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: Proven experience in building maintenance or a relevant trade.
Licence: A valid UK driving licence is essential, along with a willingness to travel across the region.
Core Skills: Strong time-management skills, ability to solve problems independently, and excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Safety Awareness: Solid knowledge of health and safety practices and safe working procedures.
Vetting and Checks
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance (verifying identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record). Depending on the nature of the specific assignment, additional formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC) may also be required. Candidates will complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to ensure appropriate support is provided.
