About the Role
We are acting on behalf of Greenwich Health Ltd—the not-for-profit GP Federation for the Greenwich Borough owned by local practices—to recruit a permanent Substantive Night UTC Nurse / Streamer (Senior Nurse) for their innovative Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in South East London.
In this key clinical leadership role, you will act as a shift leader, coordinating the multidisciplinary team and ensuring a safe, efficient emergency department/UTC front door. Working alongside GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Physician Associates, Paediatric ANPs, Emergency Practitioners, and Live Well Coaches, you will perform safe patient streaming, deliver rapid diagnostics, and provide high-quality assessment, treatment, and reassurance to patients and carers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Leadership & Shift Coordination
Act as shift leader on each night shift, coordinating the multidisciplinary working team and effectively delegating tasks to ensure safe, efficient patient care.
Monitor and manage the UTC patient case list, ensuring that time-critical and time-sensitive illnesses or injuries are prioritised accurately.
Provide day-to-day clinical leadership, guidance, and emotional support to patients, families, and colleagues.
2. Assessment, Streaming & Diagnostics
Perform safe and efficient patient streaming from the front door, assigning individuals to the correct department and priority level using clinical guidelines and tools such as NEWS scores.
Conduct clinical diagnostics and treatments, including ECGs, bloods, venepuncture/cannulation, urinalysis, wound dressings, suturing, and immediate life support.
Facilitate smooth inter-professional referrals and follow established diagnostic, escalation, and hospital specialty referral pathways.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration: Active, mandatory registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) with a recognized Nursing Qualification.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience, featuring recent post-registration experience in clinical assessment and a solid understanding of patient flow.
Competencies: Proven ability to assess patients autonomously, demonstrate strong management and leadership skills, maintain calm under pressure, handle difficult situations, and utilize digital shift-management platforms like Lantum.
Vetting: Ability to successfully complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Desirable Criteria
Recent post-registration experience in clinical assessment or a background in Emergency Department (ED) nursing.
A formal Triage or Clinical Assessment qualification.
