We are currently recruiting a strategic and hands-on Information Governance Manager to strengthen how information is understood, owned, retained, and managed across Serco UK.
Reporting directly to the Data Protection Officer, you will lead the governance of Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), processing inventories, information ownership, retention standards, and lifecycle controls. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape practical, organization-wide standards and collaborate closely with Procurement, Growth, Legal, IT, Information Security, and Privacy teams.
As an Information Governance Manager, your responsibilities will include:
RoPA & Inventory Governance: Own the RoPA governance approach and oversee the quality, completeness, and periodic review of processing inventories.
Platform Management: Lead OneTrust governance, data quality standards, lifecycle controls, and platform improvement priorities for the UK Privacy Office.
Accountability Frameworks: Develop and maintain information ownership and accountability frameworks across various business units and functions.
Retention & Deletion: Own retention and deletion frameworks, disposal standards, and related compliance monitoring.
Third-Party Processing: Maintain the processor register and establish effective third-party processing governance and assurance standards.
Continuous Improvement: Use data quality themes, incidents, assurance findings, and stakeholder feedback to prioritize improvements in data mapping and information lifecycle practices.
Executive Reporting: Provide clear reporting to the Data Protection Officer on governance risks, progress, coverage, and key decisions required.
Professional Experience: Proven experience in information governance, records management, privacy operations, data governance, compliance, or risk management.
Technical Knowledge: Practical experience with RoPA, processing inventories, retention standards, data mapping, or comparable governance records.
Regulatory Understanding: A solid working knowledge of the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and information lifecycle principles.
Stakeholder Skills: Proven ability to work alongside business owners to establish accountability and resolve data quality or ownership gaps.
System Familiarity: Prior knowledge of governance platforms such as OneTrust (or similar systems) is highly beneficial.
Competitive Package: £70,000 - £80,000 per annum (Band 3) plus a 5% target bonus scheme.
