Recognise, prevent and calm aggression in care work, and know what to do afterwards. Awareness only: no physical or restraint techniques are taught.
An awareness course for care and support workers on preventing and responding to violence and aggression. It covers why aggression happens in care settings, how to prevent it by knowing the person and the setting, de-escalation, the human rights and legal limits on force and restrictive practice, and what to do after an incident, including recording, debriefs and looking after yourself. It covers the prevention and de-escalation theory used in PMVA (prevention and management of violence and aggression) training, but it is not physical intervention training: it does not teach or certify any physical intervention, breakaway or restraint technique, which can only be learned face to face from a provider certified against the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards. Five modules, eighteen lessons, around two hours, finishing with an assessment and a SupportiveBridge certificate.
