About this role
Mencap is looking for a female Support Worker to join its team in Southampton, where seven people with learning disabilities share a lively home and enjoy socialising and meals out. Because of the nature of the service, Mencap is recruiting female applicants only, under an exemption in the Equality Act 2010.
You would give flexible, person-centred support tailored to each person, helping them be as independent as possible at home and out in the community.
Mencap is asking for:
- At least two years' experience in care
- A real passion for supporting others and a positive attitude towards people with learning disabilities
- Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays
The post is permanent and part time at 30 hours per week. The service runs 24 hours, with day shifts between 07:00 and 22:00 and sleep-ins from 22:00 to 07:00; rotas are drawn up at least four weeks ahead. Sleep-ins, where available, pay an enhanced flat rate of £64.20.
Pay is £25,577 per year pro rata. Mencap states 24 days' paid holiday (excluding bank holidays, pro rata), retail discounts, health cash plans and interest-free loans. An enhanced DBS check and references are required. The advert closes on 11 November 2026, and Mencap may appoint earlier.
