About the Role
We are acting on behalf of DoctorPA Secure LTD—an established provider of primary care services in secure environments since 2014—to recruit a dedicated and experienced General Practitioner to join the multidisciplinary healthcare team at HMP Guy's Marsh.
In this vital prison healthcare role, you will deliver high-quality primary care to patients with complex health and social care needs. Guided by DoctorPA's core CARE ethos (Compassionate, Assurance, Respectful, and Equitable), your work will directly help reduce health inequalities, manage acute and chronic conditions, and ensure continuity of care within a challenging yet deeply rewarding environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Primary Care & Clinical Delivery
Provide full general practitioner services, including consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and specialist referrals.
Manage acute presentations, long-term chronic diseases, and mental health conditions within a secure setting.
Contribute actively to the management of substance misuse and support patient detoxification pathways.
2. Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Governance
Work collaboratively alongside nursing staff, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and external healthcare providers.
Participate in clinical audits, risk assessments, safeguarding processes, and clinical governance activities to support continuous quality improvement.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate clinical records using the prison's electronic health record system.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications & Registration: Fully qualified General Practitioner with current GMC registration and a licence to practise in the UK.
Experience & Skills: Sound clinical decision-making and patient management skills gained within primary care, supported by strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Competencies: Robust understanding of patient safeguarding, medical confidentiality, and healthcare delivery within secure environments.
Vetting Requirements: Must successfully pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Desirable Criteria
Prior experience working in prison healthcare, secure units, or with other vulnerable populations.
Additional qualifications such as RCGP Part 1 and Part 2 (Substance Misuse), or specialized knowledge in mental health or sexual health.
