Based at QEQM Hospital within East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, this permanent role offers an excellent career development opportunity within a dynamic, forward-thinking critical care unit.
In this full-time role working 37.5 hours per week (with part-time and flexible working options available), you will support ward managers and lead clinical staff in providing high-standard holistic care to Level 2 and Level 3 emergency and elective patients. You will set clinical standards, manage day-to-day unit operations under pressure, facilitate staff development, and contribute to quality improvement (QI) projects, audit, and research initiatives.
Role Description
As a Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse in Critical Care, you will provide clinical leadership, care for Level 2 and Level 3 patients, support workforce management, and drive quality improvement initiatives within a busy critical care environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver expert clinical care for Level 2 and Level 3 critical care patients while leading shifts and setting high standards of patient-focused care.
Support ward management in team supervision, workload allocation, problem-solving under pressure, and maintaining clinical governance and ICNARC metrics.
Participate in audit compliance, research trials, and Quality Improvement (QI) projects while mentoring and facilitating clinical education for staff.
Requirements
Active registration as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a Degree in Nursing (or equivalent experience) and an accredited Adult Critical Care qualification.
Minimum of 3 years of post-registration nursing experience at Band 5 level within a critical care environment.
Proven leadership capabilities, clinical assessment skills, mentor/practical assessor preparation, and expertise in caring for Level 2 and Level 3 patients.

Calculated hourly rate of £20.49 to £24.68 per hour (based on £39,959 - £48,117 per annum across a standard 37.5-hour work week).
