Lead Lung Screening Nurse NHS AfC: Band 7

Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting an experienced Lead Lung Screening Nurse (Band 7) to join their clinical team in Harrogate, UK. Based at Harrogate District Hospital within Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, this permanent internal position offers a senior nursing leadership role to develop and launch the new Targeted Lung Health Check / Lung Cancer Screening Programme.

In this full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, you will combine clinical expertise, managerial leadership, audit, and educational oversight to deliver early lung cancer detection services. You will act as the primary link between the screening programme and clinical pathways, present abnormal CT results at weekly Screening Review Meetings, coordinate specialist referrals, and provide compassionate emotional and practical support to patients and their families.

Role Description

As a Band 7 Lead Lung Screening Nurse, you will lead the implementation of the lung screening service, manage onward patient referrals, participate in multidisciplinary screening review meetings, and provide expert clinical advocacy for patients undergoing lung health checks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the clinical delivery of the Trust's Lung Cancer Screening Programme, coordinating onward referrals for abnormal CT chest results and incidental findings onto cancer pathways.

• Attend and present abnormal cases at weekly Screening Review Meetings, ensuring all agreed multidisciplinary clinical actions are completed efficiently.

• Provide expert clinical advice, practical guidance, and emotional support to participants and families while training and upskilling staff across hospital and community settings.

Requirements

• Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse with significant senior nursing experience (Band 6 or above).

• Proven clinical expertise in respiratory nursing, oncology, or screening pathways, with strong skills in audit, multidisciplinary coordination, and caseload management.

• High-level communication and interpersonal abilities to deliver compassionate care during emotionally challenging patient consultations.
