We are currently seeking a dedicated Roman Catholic Chaplain to join the Justice and Immigration team at Derwentside IRC in Consett.
In this pivotal role, you will provide vital pastoral and spiritual care to detainees, helping them find hope, purpose, and direction during a challenging time in their lives, while directly supporting wellbeing, dignity, and positive outcomes.
As a Catholic Chaplain, your responsibilities will include:
Pastoral Care: Offer compassionate support and spiritual guidance to detainees and colleagues alike.
Religious Services: Deliver Catholic services, facilitate access to religious observance, and mark holy days and festivals.
Multi-Faith Collaboration: Work collaboratively within a vibrant multi-faith chaplaincy team across security, healthcare, and safer custody departments.
Crisis Support: Support individuals through bereavement, personal crisis, and resettlement challenges.
Community Engagement: Build relationships with external community groups and partners to support successful reintegration and support networks.
Essential Qualifications & Endorsement: Formal endorsement from a Roman Catholic Diocesan Bishop (or delegate) to minister in this setting, alongside relevant theological qualifications (such as the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies).
Experience: Prior experience delivering pastoral care and religious services, ideally within a secure, institutional, or community environment.
Core Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, resilience in challenging situations, and a compassionate approach to supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Due to the sensitive nature of this secure environment, an Enhanced DBS check is required, along with the completion of an Occupational Health Questionnaire to ensure proper workplace support.
Competitive Pay: £6,000 per annum for a 10-hour work week.
