As a Water Hygiene Specialist within our healthcare estates team at Darent Valley Hospital, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and effective management of complex water systems. You will act as the technical lead for water hygiene compliance activities, protecting patients, visitors, and colleagues while driving continuous improvement and innovation across the estate.
This is a high-impact, purposeful role where your technical oversight directly supports public health and resilient hospital operations.
Responsible Person (Water): Act as the site's Designated Responsible Person, ensuring full compliance with HTM 04-01, ACOP L8, HSG274, and contractual standards.
Water Safety Management: Lead the implementation, oversight, and continual improvement of the site's comprehensive Water Safety Plan.
Testing & Risk Oversight: Oversee Legionella risk assessments, water sampling programmes, flushing regimes, temperature monitoring, and necessary remedial actions.
Contractor & Vendor Management: Manage specialist contractors, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, competency, and value for money.
Projects & Advisory Liaison: Provide technical guidance for lifecycle projects, capital works, and water-related improvement initiatives while coordinating closely with Authorising Engineers (AEs) and the Water Safety Group.
Compliance & Auditing: Maintain accurate compliance records, investigate incidents, support audits, and actively contribute to Water Safety Group meetings.
We are looking for a qualified water hygiene professional with robust experience in complex healthcare or regulated estates environments.
Technical Qualifications: A formal technical qualification in engineering or a related discipline, backed by significant experience in a water hygiene engineering role.
Specialist Certification: City and Guilds or British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) Legionella qualifications, such as WH003 Legionella Control for Responsible Persons.
Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of healthcare estates environments, water hygiene legislation, guidance, and best practices.
Digital Literacy: Practical experience working with Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems, technical reporting, and compliance documentation.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
Vetting Readiness: Successful completion of a Standard DBS check (covering spent and unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act) and an Occupational Health Questionnaire.
Financial Package: Highly competitive starting salary of £60,000 – £65,000 per annum.
