Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting an experienced Staff Nurse (Band 5) to join their Short Stay Ward in Plymouth, UK. Based at Thrushel Ward within Derriford Hospital at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, this permanent position offers an excellent opportunity for a registered nurse to deliver care in a fast-paced acute medical environment.
In this full-time role working 37.5 hours per week (rotational shifts including days 07:30-20:00, nights 19:30-08:00, weekends, and bank holidays), you will provide person-centered care for patients requiring short-term admissions up to 72 hours. You will conduct clinical assessments, monitor patient progress, facilitate timely discharges or transfers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient flow and safety.
Role Description
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse on the Short Stay Ward, you will deliver acute medical nursing care, manage patient assessments, support multidisciplinary discharge planning, and ensure patient safety and flow.
Key Responsibilities
Perform holistic clinical assessments, deliver care plans, monitor patient progress, and recognize clinical deterioration promptly.
Participate actively in ward rounds, board rounds, and multidisciplinary discussions to facilitate timely treatment, recovery, and discharge within 72 hours.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams while maintaining accurate clinical records regarding mobility, nutrition, hydration, and medication needs.
Requirements
Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse with a Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
Demonstrable post-registration experience working within an acute care environment (medical or surgical) and completion of a preceptorship programme.
Strong clinical communication, workload prioritization, keyboard literacy, and understanding of Band 5 nursing responsibilities.
