On behalf of our client, Barchester Healthcare, we are currently recruiting an experienced Head of Maintenance to lead facility operations at Westgate House Care Home in Forest Gate, Newham.

About the Role
As Head of Maintenance, you will take overall responsibility for keeping the care home building, fixtures, machinery, and grounds in excellent condition, ensuring all health and safety compliance standards are strictly met.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Comprehensive Estate Maintenance: Performing diverse maintenance, repair, and decoration tasks across interior facilities, equipment, and exterior grounds.
Contractor Management: Supervising specialized contractors for major works and specialized repairs that fall outside internal scope.
Budgeting & Planning: Partnering with the General Manager on annual facility budget planning, stock management, and maintenance scheduling.
Team Leadership: Guiding and delegating tasks to maintenance assistants while maintaining high standards of work across the home.
Resident-Centred Sensitivity: Ensuring all maintenance activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to residents.
About You
We are seeking a reliable, versatile, and hands-on maintenance leader with at least one core trade skill and strong practical expertise.
Key Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience: Hands-on background in property/building maintenance with a proven ability to handle a wide variety of repair tasks.
Qualifications: GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent), with at least one recognised trade skill/qualification.
Licence & Tech: Full UK driving licence and comfortable level of IT literacy for record-keeping and administrative tasks.
Personal Attributes: High reliability, flexible approach to working hours, and genuine sensitivity toward the needs and safety of care home residents.
