Senior Staff Nurse - Emergency Department Band 6

Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is delighted to assist our valued client in recruiting a skilled Senior Staff Nurse (Band 6) to join their Emergency Department team at Whittington Hospital in London, UK. Positioned within a prominent NHS Trust serving North London, this role offers an exceptional progression opportunity for experienced emergency nurses to take on leadership responsibilities within a fast-paced environment.

In this full-time position working 37.5 hours per week (24/7 service involving 11.5-hour shifts covering days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays), you will rotate across key areas including the Resuscitation Room, Urgent Treatment Centre, Majors, Rapid Assessment Area, and Paediatric ED. You will deliver high-quality emergency care while developing shift leader competencies under the guidance of senior nursing leadership.

Role Description

As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse, you will provide specialized emergency nursing care, supervise junior staff, coordinate specific departmental areas, and act as a shift leader under supervision to ensure safe, efficient patient care and flow.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver autonomous, evidence-based nursing care across all areas of the Emergency Department, including Resus, Majors, Triage, and Paediatrics.

• Effectively coordinate specific areas of the department, supervising junior colleagues, delegating workloads, and maintaining high clinical standards.

• Act as shift leader under supervision, liaising with the Nurse-in-Charge to manage patient flow and real-time clinical incidents.

Requirements

• Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Adult Nurse (RGN) with proven post-registration experience across all areas of an Emergency Department.

• Completion of Practice Assessor course, ILS, and Trauma Intermediate Life Support (TILS), along with a post-registration qualification in Emergency Nursing.

• Demonstrated competencies in triage, phlebotomy, cannulation, and IV drug administration, alongside strong leadership and communication skills.
