Salary: £40,016 per annum (Plus 33% shift allowance where applicable)
Shift Patterns: Available across Days (Mon–Thu, 07:00–16:30), Nights (Mon–Thu, 20:30–06:00), and Weekends (Fri–Sun, 07:00–19:30)

As part of a dedicated team building world-class naval ships for the Type 26 frigate programme, you will play a hands-on role in producing complex, high-quality welding solutions. This permanent position offers an extraordinary platform to showcase your trade craftsmanship within a major industrial shipbuilding and marine environment.
Role Overview
Working on-site across Govan and Scotstoun, you will weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium using a variety of processes including MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW, and automated systems like Submerged Arc and BUG-O. You will execute high-quality butt and fillet welds, carry out self-verifications, and adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
Welding Execution: Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW, and automatic/semi-automatic processes (such as Submerged Arc and BUG-O).
Specialised Welds: Produce high-quality butt and fillet welds, including specialized ceramic-tile welding work within FCAW/MAG processes.
Quality Control: Carry out self-verification of all welds to ensure consistent quality and strict compliance with visual and NDE examination standards.
Carbon Steel Focus: Apply expertise in welding carbon-steel materials efficiently within the 4–15 mm thickness range.
Safety & Compliance: Follow safe working practices at all times, adhering to SHE requirements, risk-assessment principles, and effective fume-control measures.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Apprenticeship / Certification: Hold a Modern Apprenticeship certificate / Trade Papers and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent). (Note: Modern Apprenticeship / Trade Papers must be provided when submitting your application and in person).
Technical Experience: Proven experience in ceramic-tile welding, Flux-Cored Arc Welding, Metal-Cored Arc Welding, MIG aluminium welding, and associated equipment/automated systems.
Industry Background: Practical background gained within maritime, construction, manufacturing, or similar engineering environments.
Working Arrangement: Full on-site presence in Glasgow (Govan/Scotstoun), with the ability to attend an in-person recruitment day.
Security Clearance: All applicants must achieve, as a minimum, the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Note: Due to security and export control restrictions, candidates must meet national identity, birthplace, and residency criteria (typically requiring continuous UK residency of 5 to 10 years for higher-level national security vetting).
