Supportive Bridge Staffing is looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Teaching Assistant specializing in Visual Impairment (VI) to join our client, Lift Clacton.
In this specialized support role, you will work in partnership with classroom teachers, the SENDCo, and Qualified Teachers of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (QTVIs). Your core focus will be adapting educational materials into accessible formats, helping students leverage assistive technology, delivering targeted 1:1 or small-group interventions, and empowering visually impaired students to navigate the school environment with confidence and independence.
Resource Adaptation & Accessibility: Adapt lesson content and learning materials into accessible formats (including enlarged print, tactile materials, or digital resources) and support students in using assistive software/technologies.
Specialist Collaboration: Follow specialist advice and structured intervention plans provided by class teachers, QTVIs, and sensory support professionals.
Promoting Independence: Guide pupils to navigate the school building, trips, and enrichment activities safely while actively avoiding over-reliance on adult assistance.
Targeted Interventions & Progress Tracking: Deliver 1:1 and small-group learning activities, monitor responses, record achievements, and provide feedback to teaching and specialist staff.
Holistic Wellbeing Support: Support students' social, emotional, and personal care needs in alignment with school policies and positive behavior expectations.
Essential Qualifications & Attributes:
GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or equivalent (or willingness to work towards functional skills qualifications).
Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
Calm, patient, and empathetic approach with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Confidence in using or learning digital accessibility tools and assistive devices.
Desirable Experience (Advantageous but not required):
Previous experience supporting children or young people with visual impairments or sensory SEND needs.
Knowledge of assistive technology, enlarged print standards, tactile resources, Braille awareness, or working alongside specialist sensory/VI services.
