About the Role
In this varied and hands-on role, you will work within workshop facilities and afloat areas across Portsmouth Naval Base, delivering planned and reactive maintenance, repairs, and manufacturing projects for military and commercial customers. Operating primarily as an Appointed Person, you will prepare comprehensive lift plans, provide technical advice, and actively participate in slinging and fleeting duties as required.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
Confirm compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standard operating practices, recommending continuous improvements.
Ensure all equipment, plant, and lifting accessories are in test/examination date and maintained in a safe, usable condition.
Guarantee all work is undertaken in strict accordance with site rules and statutory regulations, including LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998.
Complete administrative tasks, including collaborating on risk assessments, pre-use check sheets, and standard/complex lift plans.
Support the broader slinging and fleeting team, ensuring safe execution of basic, intermediate, and complex lifts.
What We Are Looking For (Essential Skills & Qualifications):
Training & Knowledge: Successful completion of an Appointed Person training course, with strong practical and theoretical understanding of lifting operations.
Regulatory Expertise: Thorough knowledge of LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, BS7121 (Parts 1 & 3), and safe systems of work (SSOW).
Certifications: Hold a recognized Appointed Person and Slinging qualification (Blue card / CPCS / NPORS), alongside demonstrable knowledge or an NVQ Level 5/6 in a related area.
Safety Mindset: A robust understanding of Health and Safety procedures within a safety-critical industrial environment.
Security Note: Due to defense and export control restrictions, all applicants must achieve at least a Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Higher levels of National Security Vetting may apply where required.
