Preterm Birth Specialist Midwife Band 7

Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting an experienced Preterm Birth Specialist Midwife (Band 7) to join their Fetal Medicine Unit team in London, UK. Positioned within Whittington Health NHS Trust, this fixed-term secondment post (8 months, until 31st March 2027) offers an outstanding opportunity for a senior midwife to lead specialized clinical care and manage preterm birth pathways.

In this part-time role working 26 hours per week (Monday to Friday), you will oversee the delivery of the preterm birth service for women and birthing people identified as high risk. You will autonomously triage referrals, review cervical length images, provide specialized counseling for distressing clinical scenarios, and support multidisciplinary teams across antenatal, labor, and postnatal wards.

Role Description

As a Band 7 Preterm Birth Specialist Midwife, you will manage high-risk preterm birth pathways, provide expert clinical guidance, deliver compassionate patient counseling, and serve as a specialist resource within the Fetal Medicine Unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver clinical care for women and birthing people at risk of preterm birth, including autonomous triage and review of cervical length imaging.

• Provide expert counseling and emotional support for high-risk or distressing clinical outcomes while guiding junior clinical staff.

• Act as a specialist resource across antenatal, labor, and postnatal wards, ensuring alignment with Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle V3 and national maternity safety ambitions.

Requirements

• Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Midwife with a minimum of 3 years of post-preceptorship experience (completed UK preceptorship required).

• First-level degree in a healthcare discipline (or equivalent experience) alongside an SSSA Practice Assessor or Mentorship qualification.

• In-depth clinical knowledge of preterm birth, maternity safety frameworks (CQC, MIS, Saving Babies' Lives V3), and proven multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
