As a Kitchen Assistant at the Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre, you will join an active catering team supporting Head Chefs and Chefs. You will help deliver high-quality, safe, and nutritious catering services in strict compliance with current health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
Safety & Hygiene Compliance: Ensure food hygiene regulations, health and safety standards, and food safety protocols are strictly followed.
Stock & Waste Management: Maintain food safety during delivery, storage, and distribution, while managing waste recycling via approved methods.
Food Preparation: Prepare and cook diverse, healthy menus for detainees, including specialized diets, religious events, and special days as directed by the Head Chef.
Quality Assurance: Conduct random quality checks on serveries before, during, and after mealtimes.
Operational Support: Handle the ordering of foodstuffs and consumables, and carry out other tasks suited to the role's capabilities.
We are looking for dedicated individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments. While professional experience in high-pressure kitchens is ideal, your interpersonal skills and commitment to safety are paramount.
Technical Skills: Basic computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Communication & Problem Solving: Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with clear verbal and written communication.
Risk Awareness: A strong understanding of risk and conflict management within a secure environment.
Experience & Qualifications: Demonstrable background working in a high-pressure catering operation to tight deadlines. (Preferred: Food Safety Level 2 or 3, HACCP awareness, and allergen control training).
