About the Role
In this pivotal leadership role, you will serve as a key member of the software team, providing technical expertise and guidance in the development, testing, and maintenance of mission-critical software packages. Working within a modern DevSecOps environment, you will guide engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance software tailored for advanced Royal Navy systems.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead and support day-to-day technical activities of the software development team, driving successful delivery outcomes.
Undertake and oversee the design, development, testing, and documentation of software solutions using Agile and DevSecOps best practices.
Lead technical reviews, discussions, and cross-team collaboration to maintain high standards of quality and maintainability.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders while promoting continuous improvement and technical excellence.
What We Are Looking For (Essential Skills & Qualifications):
Software Development Expertise: Strong core development skills with experience in Rust preferred, alongside deep proficiency in Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
Technical Leadership: Proven ability to provide technical direction, mentor engineers, and guide complex software development approaches.
Educational & Professional Background: Academic qualification in a STEM-related subject, coupled with the ability or willingness to achieve Chartered Engineer (CEng) status through a recognised professional institution.
Security Note: Due to defense and export control restrictions, all applicants must achieve at least a Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Higher levels of National Security Vetting may apply where required.
