Mental Health First Responder Band 5

Supportive Bridge Staffing & Recruitment is pleased to assist our valued client in recruiting an empathetic Mental Health First Responder (Band 5) to join their team in Manchester, UK. Operating within an established NHS Foundation Trust, this role offers an exceptional opportunity for qualified mental health professionals to deliver initial crisis response and triage services over the phone.

In this full-time role working 37.5 hours per week across a 24-hour shift rota, you will provide compassionate, rapid telephone assessments for individuals of all ages (children, young people, adults, and older people) experiencing mental health crises. You will deliver initial triage, signposting, risk management, case formulation, and recovery-focused interventions while assisting callers and carers in managing distress.

Role Description

As a Band 5 Mental Health First Responder, you will conduct initial telephone mental state and risk assessments, offer de-escalation and recovery interventions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical leads to manage urgent cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver telephone-based mental state assessments, risk assessments, case formulations, and initial triage for service users experiencing crisis.

• Provide immediate validation, crisis de-escalation, recovery-focused interventions, and care plan support to callers and their carers.

• Maintain clear, confidential written and verbal documentation using digital healthcare and telephony systems while liaising with multidisciplinary teams and statutory agencies.

Requirements

• Professional registration as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or Social Worker.

• Proven post-qualification experience working with individuals of any age who present with mental health conditions or crisis needs.

• Excellent telephone communication, empathy, risk assessment skills, and proficiency with digital healthcare hardware/software.
